How to Adjust a Jeep Wrangler Soft Top

    • 1). Adjust the side and rear windows by using the zippers and the plastic strip that fits in the retainer to adjust the windows, either removing or reinstalling them. It is possible that adjusting the windows may fix problem areas on the Jeep soft top.

    • 2). Lift the rear corners on the Jeep top to straighten or flatten any part of the backside of the covering. Carefully lifting the corners and then putting them back in the retaining rail can straighten the entire top, without the soft top pulling either to the right or left.

    • 3). Move to the interior of the Jeep and unsnap the soft top from the frame. This can help straighten the top portions of the soft top. This method is really the last resort before having to remove the entire top. Before re-snapping the top to the frame, inspect the exterior of the Jeep Wrangler's soft top to be sure all of the adjustments have been made.

    • 4). Perform a final inspection of the Jeep to be sure everything that was removed, such as the rear corners or snaps, has been properly put back in place. Depending on the adjustment issues, such as the top buckling or being unable to get the top into the front retainer on the windshield, it may be necessary to remove the soft top.

    • 5). Readjust the soft top and look for problem areas if the top needed to be removed. If it is cold outside, the top may be more difficult to handle. Warmer days or moving to a warm area can cause the top to be more pliable. This can help smooth out problem areas by carefully stretching the top and reinstalling it again. Be sure to zip, snap and place all bottom edges of the top into the retaining rails.
