Septic System Roof Venting
- 1). Through an open wall behind your toilets, connect your vent pipe, running vertically, from the sewer line at your toilet, through your wall, into the attic space and through to the roof above. If your wall is not already open, use a drywall saw to remove a section of the drywall 16 inches wide by eight feet tall.
- 2). Connect the pipes with a primer and an ABS glue.
- 3). Secure the pipe to the adjacent studs with plumber's tape, a spool of metal tape with holes in it.
- 4). Wrap the tape around one stud and then around the pipe. Then wrap it around the second stud, pulling tightly to secure the pipe. There will be one pipe on each floor in the middle of the walls. Each pipe will connect to the next, right on through the roof.
- 5). Run the pipe through the roof. It will require a roof jack or a metal flashing that goes around the pipe on the roof. This allows the roofer to tie into his roofing material, and also enables the water to run off the roof and not into the house.
- 6). Hook up multiple house toilets to the one given vent, depending upon how far away the toilets are from each other and the vent diameter size.
