Oprah celebrated her 56th birthday by doing what she does best, filming Friday Live in Chicago with more than 100 audience members also celebrating their birthday.

While Oprah has everything she needs, this year she got herself a gift of two springer spaniel puppies from PAWS Chicago, Sunny and Lauren who were introduced to viewers on the show. Oprah also interviewed UP in the Air director Jason Reitman. What can viewers do to grant Oprah her wish for her birthday? The only thing Oprah asked is that viewers do their part to help save lives by signing the No Phone Zone pledge to stop talking and texting while driving.

Special Highlights:

This episode featured the following highlights:
  • Oprah wished the audience a happy birthday and introduced her new babies that she got for her birthday - her springer spaniel puppies, Sunny and Lauren from PAWS Chicago.

  • Jason Reitman, director of Up in the Air spoke about his film about a man who travels across the country firing people. The people getting fired in the film were real unemployed individuals cast from the areas where the movie was filming. Some appeared on the show and shared how the process was validating.

  • Oprah's birthday wish was for viewers to sign the No Phone Zone pledge.

What to Take Away from the Show:

After watching this episode it was inspiring to hear the stories of the people who shared the experience of losing their job, and still found hope and validation by getting their voices heard in Jason Reitman's film. With so many people around the country feeling the stress of the economy, the film looks to balance a love story, comedy, and depth all in one.

Besides getting out and seeing the film, Oprah's wish for people to make their cars a No Phone Zone has caused initial anxiety in some making the change, but a movement has begun and many are starting to realize the dangers of texting and driving.
