Building a cheap chicken coop isn't hard.
Chickens aren't picky creatures.
If you are really looking for a cheap chicken coop you don't have to have a "real chicken coop".
Believe or not chickens can feel comfortable in the oddest of places; there's been chickens calling a truck cap home.
As long as there's a closed bottom and a door in the back then that will work.
Chickens don't need a palace but what they do need is a place that will keep them safe and healthy.
Of course how to build a cheap chicken coop by using a truck cap is not what I am recommending.
I am just pointing out that you don't have to have an elaborate hen house to have chickens.
Some even say chickens don't really need their own coop.
They can stay in your shed or barn but if you are committed to raising chickens you do want them to have their own chicken coop to keep the safe from predators.
And chickens can make a quite a mess.
They love to scratch and peck and take dirt bathes like other birds, so having their own house just makes sense.
There are many different kinds of coops to choose from.
The inside your coop should be roomy enough for your chickens to have a place to roost, a place for laying eggs and a place to socialize.
When deciding on nesting boxes you can use inexpensive boxes or fancy nesting boxes but the truth is the chickens don't really care as long as they feel safe and comfy enough in them to lay their eggs.
Keep them filled with straw or wood chips, the decision is up to you.
