How to Change the Combination for a Simplex Lock

    • 1). Open the door. Disengage the passage feature on locks that have this feature. Turn the knob so it is vertical.

    • 2). Push the control key into the combination change assembly. Remove the cylinder by moving the key to the left. Pull the assembly away from the door, which will allow you to reach the change sleeve.

    • 3). Turn the knob clockwise one time, and release it. The knob's latch should not retract if done correctly.

    • 4). Enter the current combination into the lock, which is the factory combination on new doorknobs. Push the 2 and 4 buttons at the same time, and release. Press 3 and release to finish activating the factory-set code.

    • 5). Open the combination change sleeve by using the spanner wrench. Turn the wrench in a clockwise direction once. Turn the wrench again to the left until a click is felt.

    • 6). Grab the knob, and turn it to the right one time. The knob should turn an entire revolution and then stop. Release the knob.

    • 7). Select a new combination that can be easily remembered. Push each button to enter the combination. Each button will click to signal that the number has been entered correctly.

    • 8). Turn the knob to the right, and hold it in the position where it stops. Check to see whether the knob's latch is retracted, and release it.

    • 9). Attach the combination assembly. Remove the lock key and store it in a safe area.
