DIY Metal Carport Instructions

    • 1). Measure the dimensions for your carport with the tape measure and make a note on a piece of paper. The typical size of a car port is 12-feet or 14-feet wide.

    • 2). Set the first starter piece of base rail on the ground in place at the front corner. Measure the width of the structure and set another starter piece of base rail on the ground. The two pieces should be side-by-side or parallel with each other.

    • 3). Attach base extenders to each starter piece until you reach the desired length of the car port. Drive pins into the base rails and into the ground with the hammer to anchor the structure.

    • 4). Lay out a peak section, 2 rafters, 2 side bends and 2 height extensions on the ground. These will be used to construct the first wall frame.

    • 5). Attach the two rafters to the peak section and then attach the two side bends to the height extensions. Secure each joint on the wall frame with self-tapping screws using the power drill.

    • 6). Repeat steps for making the peak to complete the remaining sections of wall frame.

    • 7). Lift up the first piece of wall framing and set it in place on the base rails. Secure the wall framing to the base rails with the self-tapping screws. Repeat this step to attach the remaining wall framing to the base rails.

    • 8). Set the sheet metal on the top of the frame and secure it with the self-tapping screws to complete the project.
