Porcelain Tile DIY Advice

    Maintenance and Repair

    • Porcelain tile is easier to keep clean and fresh looking than other tile choices, such as natural stone and ceramic tile. However, you must hire a professional to help repair cracked porcelain tile. Porcelain tile may explode like glass, creating sharp glass-like shards of tile.

    Sealing

    • In most cases, a sealant is not required for porcelain tile. Porcelain tile is so dense that it is impervious to tile sealants; but, it is necessary to seal the grout in porcelain tile flooring.

    Installation

    • You will need a diamond-blade wet saw to cut porcelain tile. Traditional dry tile cutters do not work well with porcelain tile. Use a 4-inch grinder for circular or oddly shaped cuts.
