How to Shut Off the Water Valves Causing Faucet Squealing
- 1). Locate the faucet in question by turning it on and listening for the pipe squealing noise while no other faucets or appliances are running. To do this, lift the handle up and simply let the water run. Turn the faucet handle for cold and hot, listening for the squealing noise to change for each.
- 2). Shut the faucet off by pressing the handle down and closing the valves. Listen for the squealing noise to go away. It should once the faucet is closed.
- 3). Open the cabinets under the faucet and look for two valve handles located on two vertical pipes connected to the water tubes leading to the faucets. Both valve handles should be facing toward you. The one on the left is hot water, and the one on the right is cold water. Shut both valves by turning the handle all the way to the left (counterclockwise) or toward the closed position if one is indicated by markings on the valve.
- 4). Lift the faucet handle again. No water will run through the pipes. If it does, you did not turn the valves completely closed and must turn them farther to seal off the water.
