How to Make a Custom Sanding Block

  • 1). Lay an 8- to 12-inch-wide sheet of plastic wrap over the face of a piece of scrap molding.

  • 2). Mix a two-part filler (Bondo works great) and press it onto the plastic to fit the molding's shape.

  • 3). Wrap the edges of the plastic up around the filler and let it set.

  • 4). Remove the filler block when dry.

  • 5). Cut a sheet of sandpaper the same width and a few inches longer than the block.

  • 6). Wrap the ends of the sandpaper around the ends of the block and you now have a custom molding sanding block.
