Spyder Lightning Insulated Ski Jacket Review

The Spyder Lightning Insulated Ski Jacket is a high-performance jacket with great fit and even better looks.
Overall, it has all the features you'd want: a powder skirt and internal draw cords to keep out snow, a waterproof exterior, extremely warm insulation and linings, ventilation zippers, and multiple pockets.
The Spyder Lightning Insulated Ski Jacket has a very inconspicuous and lightweight hood, which stows away into the collar.
This means the hood isn't lined with fleece or fur, so it doesn't provide as cozy and effective of an enclave as the hoods of many other winter jackets.
This small detail will not matter to some people, but for other users it may mean the difference between going with this jacket and another one entirely.
Other than the conspicuously absent hood, this jacket is loaded with all the usual bells and whistles.
It does a great job of wicking your sweat to the outside during times of intense activity, and is warm enough for very cold conditions.
The lining is extremely warm and does very well with a few extra technical layers on under it.
I stayed dry, except for one time when snow fell from the trees and got down my neck.
This would have been avoided if I had a hood, but this is the only major downside of the jacket.
The jacket's pockets are hidden in the front, which is a nice touch stylistically.
Storm flaps keep the weather out and stay closed, while the elastic waist drawcord did a nice job of keeping out the snow.
A hidden sleeve pocket contains a lens wipe for your ski goggles, and the ventilation flaps did their job effectively of allowing air to flow in all the right ways to keep me comfortable.
The jacket fits a bit small so you might want to buy one size smaller than you usually wear, but if you find the right size the fit is very nice and looks great on most figures.
The design also allows for good freedom of movement for when you're really working the ski slopes with all you've got.
Overall the Spyder Lightning Insulated Ski Jacket is a very nice-looking and functional option for your next winter parka, but if the lack of a fuzzy hood bothers you, you'll have to look elsewhere.
Besides the hood, this jacket is a premium piece of equipment that will keep you warm even in harsh conditions.
