Many preteen girls love partying, and there's nothing better than a fun party game to keep them busy and entertained. At the same time, you can't simply use the same games that worked at parties when they were little kids. Instead, try some party games made just for kids their age that use nothing more than basic materials you'll have around the house or have already purchased for the party. - This game takes plenty of preparation, but it can be a big hit at a party with girls at this age. To play, kids are given a clue, which they can then follow to a hiding place. In that hiding place is a second clue, which leads them to a third, and so forth. At the end of the hunt, they will find a "treasure" of some sort---a box of party favors, a collection of makeup for makeovers (see the last section of this article) or some fun party snacks to share. Make the clues as original as possible, using slogans from cereal commercials (which point them to the pantry), poems ("The next clue is closer than you think/Just look near the spout of the kitchen..." pointing them to the kitchen sink) and funny lines ("Glug, glug...The next clue is drowning in suds..." pointing them to the washing machine).
- This game is a fun activity that will use up some of the girls' energy. To prepare the game, cut yarn in different colors into hundreds of 3-inch pieces. Scatter the pieces all over the party area, especially in hidden places, such as under the table, behind the furniture, under the party tablecloth and behind some decorations. Divide the girls into two teams. Instruct them to collect as many of the pieces of yarn as possible and to race to tie them together into a long string as quickly as possible. The team to tie together the longest string at the end of the game wins.
- Many preteen girls love to play with makeup, jewelry and clothes. Although you can let them give each other makeovers at the party, it's much more exciting to make the process into one of two games: Tinfoil Makeover or The Ugliest Makeover. To play Tinfoil Makeover, simply provide groups of girls with rolls of tinfoil and challenge them to use it to give the best makeover possible. They can make jewelry, hair accessories and clothing from the tinfoil with a bit of creativity. Alternatively, The Ugliest Makeover challenges them to use makeup, costume jewelry and dress-up clothes to give one member of the group the ugliest makeover ever.
