Fun Casual Wedding Ideas

    Outdoors

    • If you and your spouse-to-be are more laid-back, barefoot kind of people, host your wedding in a spacious backyard, at your favorite campground, at the lake, at the beach or even in a clearing in the woods. Choose a location that has significance to you as a couple. For example, if he first said he loved you during a picnic in the woods, have a picnic wedding at the campground where you first went camping together.

A backyard barbecue and pool party reception would work if your style is simple and fun. You can get married barefoot in the sand at the beach, either in a bikini and swimming trunks or traditional wedding attire. Set up a campfire and offer cold drinks, barbecued food and all of the fixings for s'mores.

    Themed Weddings

    • Use a hall, a small cruise ship or large room in someone's home to set up a casino room. Poker tables, roulette tables and blackjack tables provide fun for the guests. You can give out custom poker chips with a picture of the two of you or your names. To stick with the theme, the bride can wear a saloon-style wedding dress or even dress like a showgirl. The groom can dress up like a magician or Elvis. Of course, you can hire an Elvis impersonator to officiate as well.

Choose an era that fascinates you both and host a decade-themed wedding. If you're fans of the 1970s, host a disco wedding. The bride can wear a retro wedding gown and the groom can wear a white disco suit, complete with platforms. Ask your guests to come dressed in disco attire and dance the night away.

If Halloween is your favorite holiday, host a costume party with a Halloween theme, even if your wedding is in March. The bride and groom should dress up in matching costumes, such as Frankenstein and his bride.

For lovers of the Old West, decorate your reception facility like a saloon or get married in a ghost town. The bride can wear a corset dress and the groom can wear a traditional cowboy getup. You can hire actors or entice a couple of friends to have a mock shootout in the middle of a dirt road.

    Adventures and Experiences

    • If you're a thrill-seeking couple, getting married on a roller coaster or while skydiving may be more your style. Celebrate on the ground with everyone else or have them join you in the air. Get married on your favorite ski slope, right before you go down the hill or on your way up in the ski lift. You can even get married underwater while snorkeling and then celebrate with your guests in the sand.

Incorporate wine tasting into your wedding if you are wine connoisseurs. Tour a fancy winery or marry in a hot-air balloon over a vineyard, followed by an outdoor gathering at the winery. Sports fans can opt to get married at a game, using their favorite team as the theme for their reception. For instance, a couple that loves football could arrange to get married at halftime during the Super Bowl and then host a party afterward with casual Super Bowl snacks such as hot wings, sub sandwiches, nachos and veggies and dip.
