The Specifications of a Bullitt Mustang

    • Ford Mustangs have been in development since 1964, but the 2008 model takes its inspiration from the car's finest hour. "Bullitt," a 1968 movie starring the legendary Steve McQueen, was the showcase for an equally legendary car, the Mustang that thrilled moviegoers in a classic car chase scene. The 2008 Bullitt Mustang pays homage to this vehicle from its identical color scheme right down to its perfectly re-created exhaust sounds.

    Power

    • A 1.22-gallon (4.6 liter) V-8 engine with overhead cam is the heart of the Bullitt Mustang and can reach a redline (the maximum speed at which an engine and its components can operate without damaging themselves) of 6500 revolutions per minute (rpm). The car can hit a ferocious 315 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, as well as 325 foot-pounds of torque at 4,250 rpm, not to mention a maximum speed of 151 miles per hour. The axle ratio is 3.73:1 and there is revised cam timing when the car hits peak power. It is also equipped with a cold-air open-element induction system, which helps the car breathe more easily and results in improved horsepower and mileage. A hood blanket is also included for better insulation. You can choose what kind of gas you want to use in the Mustang thanks to a dual-knock strategy, which allows the use of both regular unleaded and premium unleaded gas.

    Design

    • There is no hiding the inspiration for this vehicle; the dark highland green paintwork comes straight from the 1968 movie. The clean and basic exterior adds to this likeness to make a true homage to the classic car. The Euroflange cast-aluminum wheels are one of the features that makes this a modern take, rather than a copy, of the original. Satin-finished gray spokes add the finishing touches to a great-looking vehilce. Inside the Bullitt the color scheme is black, complete with black leather seats. The pedals sport aluminum covers and just like the outside there is a basic look in the interior. Adding that final touch is an aluminum ball at the top of the shifter.

    Other Features

    • Bringing this fearsome machine to a halt is the job of the highly capable four-wheel power carbon metallic disc brakes. A five-speed manual transmission makes sure all of the engine's power makes it to the wheels. To further simulate the experience of the Steve McQueen movie the exhaust features mufflers complete with 3.5-inch chrome tips, not only helping to achieve the most horsepower possible, but also make a big noise that was designed to sound like the original movie car.
