How do I Build Portable Outdoor Sinks?
- 1). Attach the three plywood pieces, 2 feet wide by 3 feet long and ½ inch thick, together using 2 hinges on each of the 3 feet long sides to create a triangle-shaped wood stand for the sink. Attach the hinges by screwing them in with ½ inch screws. Use 1/4 inch pin door hinges attached on the outside of the last triangle corner so that when you go to fold up the stand the pins can be removed. Place the stand on its end so that it is now 3 feet tall.
- 2). Measure and mark a line around the triangular stand that is 1 inch down from the top edge. Fasten the three 2 feet long 1-by-2's on the line, using the 1 ½ inch screws and screwdriver. This creates the lip needed to set the counter-top securely on the triangle-shaped sink stand.
- 3). Lay the 2 feet square counter-top piece on the top of the triangle-shaped wood stand. Make sure that it sits snugly on top of the wood stand. This piece can later be lifted off to fold up the sink stand.
- 4). Position the 13 inch pie plate in the center of the counter-top. Then use the pen to trace a circle around the pie pan. Then use the ¾ inch drill bit to drill a hole on the left side of the circle. Now cut the circle out by putting the saw blade into the hole and cutting along the curve you traced around the pie pan.
- 5). Brush paint onto all exposed edges of the counter-top and stand using the paint brush.
- 6). Set the 15 inch steel basin into the 13 inch diameter hole in the sink stand's counter-top. This creates the sink and leaves a 2 inch lip on the basin that you can grab to remove the basin when you go to fold-up the sink. Place the 3 gallon thermos with the spout on the edge of the sink counter-top where the spout will empty the water into the sink. The sink is now complete.
- 1). Close the spout on the 3 gallon thermos, lift it off of the edge of the sink and place it in your transport vehicle.
- 2). Lift the sink basin out of the hole that is in the counter-top of the stand. Then place the sink basin in your transport vehicle.
- 3). Lift the counter-top off of the stand and place it into your transport vehicle.
- 4). Fold the sink stand up. To do this first remove the 1/4 inch pins from the outside door hinges on the last connected corner of the triangle stand. Then close the stand sides in on the center 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall front piece of the triangle-shaped stand. This will make the stand 3 feet tall but flat. The stand can now be readied for transport.
- 5). Tie the rope around the stand so that it is secure and will not unfold. Then load the stand into your transport vehicle.
