Careers in Engineering Colleges

      Engineers are professionals who help design, develop and test new products. These individuals can work in a variety of specialties, such as agriculture, aerospace and computer hardware. Employment of engineers is projected to climb 11 percent from 2008 to 2018, according to the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Median annual wages of engineers in May 2008 ranged from $68,730 to $108,020, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. Colleges and universities prepare students for careers in engineering through undergraduate and graduate programs.

Students can choose to earn their bachelor’s or master’s degrees in agricultural or biological engineering. They also can complete a doctoral program in biological/agricultural engineering. Engineering degrees have been available at the University of Georgia for more than 130 years.     Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis

    • Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis in Indianapolis, Indiana, offers undergraduate and graduate areas of study such as biomedical, electrical, computer and mechanical engineering. Students also can study motorsports engineering and a new area called energy engineering. Energy engineering allows professionals to apply science and math to help develop solar and wind power plants as well as hybrid cars. Motorsports engineering students learn about computer-aided engineering, motorsports design and control systems/analysis and also must complete an internship in this specialty area. Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis was founded in 1969. The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology accredits engineering programs at the school.

    California National University

    • California National University offers online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in engineering. Students in the programs can choose to focus on elective areas such as mechanical engineering, quality assurance science and environmental engineering. To get into the master’s degree program, students must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. Courses in the graduate program cover topics such as graduate engineering analysis and statistics. California National University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. The university was founded in 1993.
