How To Get an Online LPN Degree Quickly

    • 1). Take Advanced Placement classes in high school. Most schools require candidates for a nursing degree to pass classes in subjects such as biology and chemistry. Many high schools offer junior and seniors the opportunity to complete college level coursework while in high school. AP classes are free. If you complete the material and pass standard exams you can earn college credits. Many online LPN programs will give you college credit for AP classes that you have taken. This can save you money and time.

    • 2). Complete courses during the summer. Pick an LPN program that runs year round. If you can take compressed classes during the summer months you can complete an LPN program in as little as nine months.

    • 3). Attend classes full time. Devoting yourself to your studies allows you to complete them more quickly. Have your finances in order before you begin your studies. If necessary take out student loans. Let the loans pay for your entire expenses. Working while taking nursing classes can make it difficult to complete and focus on your studies.

    • 4). Note all necessary coursework well in advance. A necessary class may not be open when you need it. Work with your online advisor. Create a plan together that will enable you to map out a course of study each term. Check the plan at least a month before each semester begins. Online LPN students must register each term. Some schools allow you to register well in advance. Others may have a period of open enrollment during which you can sign up for classes. Note this fact before the semester begins.

    • 5). Arrange your term of clinical education at least two months in advance. All LPN degree candidates, even those taking classes online, must complete a term of clinical education. During this period you will work with patients full time in a hospital setting. Some online LPN programs will arrange this internship for you. Others require you to contact hospitals and nursing homes on your own. Make sure that you understand what you need to do before you begin. If no slots are available you may have to wait a term and thus delay completion of your degree.
