How to Paint a Stucco House
- 1). Remove any dirt and debris that are on the surface of the stucco. The best way to accomplish this is to use a power washer. The pressure of the power washer will clean out all the crevices of the stucco, and you can clean a wider area, as well.
- 2). Allow the stucco to dry thoroughly. You do not want any water or dampness laying on the surface of the stucco that will interfere with the adherence of the paint.
- 3). Repair any areas of the stucco house that are cracked, or have deep crevices. Your neighborhood home improvement store sells "acrylic latex caulk" that will fill the cracks, easily and efficiently.
- 4). Purchase an acrylic-based paint. Unlike oil-based paints, acrylic paint will allow the stucco to breathe and reduce the likelihood that moisture will have the opportunity to collect in the stucco's pours.
- 5). Fill your paint sprayer and carefully spray your chosen color of acrylic paint onto the stucco. Once the first layer of paint is dry, it is a good idea to spray a second coat just in case you have missed any spots.
