How to Care for Vinyl Composite Tile Flooring

    • 1). Sweep, dust mop, or vacuum the floor daily or whenever there are dry spills or visible, loose dirt.

    • 2). Damp mop the floors when sweeping does not remove all the dirt on the floor. Dilute a pH-neutral floor cleaner according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 3). Scrub the floor for deep cleaning or before applying polish. Dilute a pH-neutral floor cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions. Scrub the floor with a long-handled scrub brush, scrubbing pad, or automatic floor machine. After you scrub, remove the floor solution with a wet/dry vac or the vacuuming feature of the floor machine. Finally, rinse the floor with a fresh-water mop, and buff the floor dry with clean towels or a dry pad on the floor machine.

    • 4). Coat the floor with two to five coats of polish (more for high-traffic areas) before you allow traffic on the floor for the first time. Apply one to two coats of polish whenever the polish begins to wear away in high-traffic areas. Use commercial floor polish, a floor machine and a buffing pad.

    • 5). Place mats (avoid black or brown rubber) in front of all entryways. Make sure the mat is at least as wide as the door, so it will collect most of the soil and moisture tracked into the room. Clean the mats as they become soiled, or they will make the floor dirty.
