How to Do Leather Buttons

    • 1). Put the leather face down on the working surface. You will need about 3 inches of leather per button.

    • 2). Lay the button on top of the leather, in the middle, with the shank facing up.

    • 3). Measure the distance from the shank of the button to the edge of the button.

    • 4). Measure the same distance in Step 3 from the edge of the button onto the leather.

    • 5). Use the fabric pencil to mark the distance on the leather all around the button.

    • 6). Connect the dots around the button to make a circle.

    • 7). Cut out the circle. Ensure it is as precise as possible.

    • 8). Use a hand sewing needle and fabric floss to stitch around the edge of the circle. Keep the stitch loose. Do not tie a knot at the end but leave a long tail.

    • 9). Put the button in the middle of the leather.

    • 10

Knot the embroidery floss around the leather, secure the tail and trim it. Ensure there are no folds or creases.
