How to Clean & Polish Silver With Vinegar

- 1). Dissolve 1 teaspoon salt in 1 cup vinegar in a non-reactive mixing bowl, such as stainless steel or plastic. Add 1/4 cup flour and stir to make a thick paste. If the mixture is too thin, add more flour, a little at a time until it reaches the desired consistency. The paste should be thick enough to adhere to the silver.
- 2). Apply the paste to the silver item with a soft cloth. Take care to completely cover the entire surface with a thin coating. Let it stand for 15 minutes.
- 3). Rinse the silver item under lukewarm running water to remove the paste. You may need to use a soft cloth to wipe away the paste. Dry the silver item with a towel.
- 4). Polish the silver with a clean, dry, soft cloth until it is shiny. Flannel, cloth diapers and soft terrycloth are suitable to use for polishing silver. Fabric that feels rough or textured will scratch the surface of the silver.
