How to Do the Yoga Eagle Pose With a Strap

    • 1). Stand in mountain pose with your feet about hip width apart and your arms resting at your sides. Bend your knees slightly and shift your weight to the right. Slowly lift the left foot, crossing the leg over your right thigh. Point the toes of your left foot towards the floor and bend the knee, drawing the foot back. Hold here, or if you are flexible enough, wrap the top of the foot around the back of your right calf and flex your toes, hooking your foot into place.

    • 2). Hold a strap in both hands and extend your arms in front of your, parallel to the floor and spread shoulder width apart. Roll your shoulders forward, increasing the distance between your shoulder blades and then cross your right arm over the left. Hold the strap firmly and then bend your elbows.

    • 3). Bend your elbows and lift your forearms as much as you can comfortable. The strap should create counter-resistance which will help to increase your flexibility and hold the arms in place with less effort. Turn your wrists so that the backs of the hands are facing and eventually, try to press your right hand into the left. When this becomes comfortable, try dropping the strap.

    • 4). Hold the yoga eagle pose for 15 to 30 seconds before gently unwinding the arms and legs and repeating the pose on the opposite side.
