Battle of Dyrrhachium
Definition:
Pompey was backed by the Roman senate when he fought against Caesar at the Battle of Dyrrhachium (modern Durres, Albania) in July 48 B.C. Caesar, with less than half as many troops as his opponent, attempted an unsuccessful siege, and losing, withdrew to Thessaly. Pompey didn't follow Caesar in his retreat, which, in hindsight, was a fatal error since Caesar would soon beat him at the Battle of Pharsalus.
