How to Make Canola Oil Soap

    • 1). Wring out a towel out in cool water; pour some vinegar over it. Set the towel and the vinegar near your work area. If you splash lye or liquid soap on yourself, use the vinegar-dampened towel to clean it up.

    • 2). Weigh the oils, and put them in the soup pot. Put the pot over very low heat to warm the oil.

    • 3). Measure the liquid into the measuring cup. Weigh the lye crystals and pour them into the liquid in the measuring cup. Stir until the lye crystals are completely dissolved. Wear the safety glasses and disposable gloves,

    • 4). Let the lye cool while the oils warms. Stir the oils to combine them completely. Pour the lye into the oils when they reach 120 F. Stir the ingredients with the metal spoon, and then switch to the immersion blender.

    • 5). Blend and stir the oil and lye mixture with the immersion blender until trace. Trace is when a little of the liquid soap mixture -- drizzled over the surface of the soap -- stays on the surface for a few seconds.

    • 6). Add the essential oil, and stir to blend completely. Pour the soap mixture into the soap molds. This makes 10 bars of soap, each weighing approximately 4 oz.

    • 7). Put the soap molds in a warm place; let them sit overnight to harden. Put them in the freezer for up to four hours. Pop the soap bars out of the molds, and put them somewhere where they can cure for at least two weeks in the air.
