Tiffany Style Or Bent Panel Lamps In Room Dcor

Within a darkened room the vibrant colors of stained glass lamps, whether Tiffany style or bent panel style, offset their surroundings. These three dimensional shades become the central focus of the room in which they are placed. Whether that room is located in a home or an office setting, their soft glow gives a warm and a welcoming atmosphere to the room.

The history of Tiffany lamps and Tiffany style lamps is a brief, but interesting history. While decorating the Lyceum Theater in New York in 1885, Tiffany first became involved with the use of glass and artificial light. It was not until 1896 that portable lamps made by Tiffany became available to the public for sale. After making his portable lamps he began to make lamps that had blown glass bases and shades. Tiffany introduced his first lamp with a combination of a metal standard with a leaded glass shade in 1898. Imitators began to make lamps in the style of Tiffany's lamps. Tiffany's lamps soon became confused with the products of imitators and the name Tiffany became a generic name for all lamps using leaded glass.

In the 1920's and 1930's there was an interest in the Tiffany style and bent panel lampshades. In the later years these products popularity waned. The cause of this unpopularity was due in fact to the material with which the lampshades were made - glass. Although they began to go out of fashion, they never fully went out of fashion. This is attested to by the fact that a considerable number of them have survived in excellent condition. These lampshades began to make a comeback in popularity due in part to the ever-growing interest in stained glass lampshades in the style of Tiffany lamps or bent panel. Since most homes have limited space, a Tiffany style lamp or bent panel lamp is easier to accommodate in a room. They are also less expensive than the planning and installation of a stained glass window, a room divider or fireplace screen.

With the growing interest in this day and age of stained glass, the market for reproductions of the old types of shades, including both the Tiffany type and bent panel style, has grown. These lamps which bring a vibrancy of color, style and warm glow to any room in a home or even an office setting have once again become a popular home or office dcor item.
