Timber Deck Ideas

    Go Curvy

    • If the usual square deck isn't quite your style, add a few curves to your deck design. From circular center decks to curvy walkways, deck design aesthetic has expanded to include a number of options outside the perfect rectangle or square. If you need a meandering garden walkway to connect two sections of deck, think about creating a curvy, timbered walkway to connect them. If you have a deck with a view, add a circular deck to make a space for entertaining friends and family.

    Level It

    • If a large flat expanse isn't your style but you still want an outdoor space or room to use, create some eye-pleasing depth by adding multiple levels to your timber deck. Timber, or sometimes even stone stairs can connect levels. Decks with a lot of levels tend to work best on sloping terrain, but if you have your heart set on the look, two or three level decks are possible in most places with minimal work.

    Get Colorful

    • Unlike composite decking, wood or timber decking will rot if left unprotected. Add a bit of color and protect your deck in one swoop by painting or staining your deck. Paint creates a layer of protection between the wood and the water, but stain actually seeps into the boards to form a protective barrier. Both paint and stain are available in a wide range of colors. Pick a waterproof type meant for use on outdoor and exterior surfaces to save yourself a hassle later.

    Add On

    • If you want to add some height or variation to your timber deck, include extras in the design, like a pergola or built-in seating. You can create additional design elements when the deck is initially built, or construct elements at a later date.
