How to Sew Custom Window Shades
- 1). Measure the window. Add six inches to the width and three inches to the length.
- 2). Set the iron to the proper setting your fabric and iron.
- 3). Cut the interfacing the same size as your fabric, following the manufacturer's directions on interfacing. Place your fabric on the iron wrong side up and the adhesive facing down on the fabric. Iron the interfacing to the fabric. Flip the fabric over and iron out any creases.
- 4). Measure the fabric to the exact width of the pressure rod, and mark where you will cut with the pencil. Before you cut, paint on the no-fray liquid around the lines where you will cut. Allow it to dry.
- 5). Trim the fabric gently. Iron any area of the interface that comes up as you cut.
- 6). Fold the bottom up 3/4-inch and sew the hem.
- 7). Fold the bottom again a little larger than the height of the wooden slat. Sew the edge of the fold to the fabric. Slip the fabric onto the wooden slat.
- 8). Staple the top of the curtain to the rod. Check the shade so you know it falls in the right direction. Install the shade in your window.
