How to Pass a Toast Glass

    • 1). Pick up and hold the glass. Clasp a white wine or champagne glass where the top of the stem meets the bottom of the bowl to ensure a secure hold. Place your hand around the bottom of the bowl of a red wine glass. Slide the stem between your middle and ring fingers for an even lift. Holding a red wine glass by the bowl allows the warmth of your palm to release aroma in the beverage. Avoid holding white wine and champagne by the bowl to prohibit glass warmth.

    • 2). Pass the glass. Clasp the lower half of the stem of each glass -- red wine, white wine and champagne -- with your middle finger, index finger and thumb. Fold your remaining two fingers back in toward the palm. Make eye contact with the recipient to avoid a clash of hands and place your eyes back on the beverage as you complete the pass.

    • 3). Hand off the glass. Allow the recipient to secure their clasp on the upper half of the stem before releasing. Make eye contact with the recipient and smile as you carefully pull your hand free of the stem and let go.
