How to Find Inexpensive Pots for Plants

    • 1). Check for nice clay flower pots in the home wares section of discount stores such as Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Ross. They often have ceramic and metal garden pots/planters for relatively little. Elegant, original pots that normally go for $10-$30 can be found for $2-12. Fancy 6 inch pots are often clearanced for around $2.99.

    • 2). Scope out garage sales, thrift stores, and craigslist.org. While clay flower pots are heavy and, therefore, not a good ebay buys, they can be a great deal when found locally using these sources. You can even put a wanted add up to let people know what pots you're looking for size or color wise. Many times people will sell pots (and sometimes the plants in them) when moving.

    • 3). Look for ornamental baskets of all sizes. You can find them at the above mentioned places, but take a glance around as you might find one lying around the house that you forgot about. Line them with plastic bags with a few holes poked in the bottom with a pencil or hole punch. Voila, pretty pots!

    • 4). Be creative and turn decorative containers and wider, more shallow vases into pots. Carefully drill drainage holes or use several pieces of broken pottery in the bottom when you plant.
