How to Use BioGuard
- 1). Circulate the water in the pool for 10 to 12 hours a day by pointing the jets at a 45 degree angle toward the bottom of the pool. Moving water minimizes algae and bacteria.
- 2). Clean the pool filter of any trapped materials when the water pressure reaches 8 to 10 psi above the normal levels as outlined by its manufacturer
- 3). Add Filter Brite into the filter every six weeks to chemically remove build-up of oil and debris.
- 4). Brush and vacuum the walls and bottom of the pool every week. After cleaning, place a BioGuard Smart Stick in the skimmer basket or automatic chlorine dispenser.
- 5). Dissolve BioGuard Smart Shock in the pool water every week to chemically destroy organic contaminants, maintain water balance, and clear the water.
- 6). Add BioGuard Banish to prevent and control algae in the pool water.
- 7). Get a small sample of pool water. Test the water using your own test kit or bring the water to a BioGuard dealer for testing.
- 8). Add BioGuard Balance Pak 200 to the water if the pH is lower than 7.4, or add BioGuard Lo 'N Slo if the pH is higher than 7.6. A good water pH protects pool equipment and optimizes the performance of other pool products.
- 9). Add BioGuard Balance Pak 100 if the total alkalinity falls below 125 ppm, or add BioGuard Lo 'N Slo if the total alkalinity is above 150 ppm. Total alkalinity measures the water's ability to resist pH changes, and an ideal total alkalinity level minimizes pH fluctuations.

Add BioGuard Balance Pak 300 to the water if the calcium hardness is below 200 ppm for plaster pools or below 175 ppm for other types of pools. If the calcium hardness is above 275 ppm for plaster pools or above 225 ppm for other pools, add BioGuard Scale Inhibitor. If the calcium hardness is above 400 ppm, you might need to partially drain the pool and add water with lower calcium hardness. Calcium hardness measures the amount of calcium in the water, and proper levels of calcium hardness prevent cloudiness. - 11
Add Pool Magnet Plus to the water every month if the water contains metals. This product prevents stains caused by metals such as copper and iron in the pool water.
