How to Contact the Congress

    • 1). Gain access to the Internet. If you don't have access to the Internet at home or work, free access is available at public libraries.

    • 2). Identify the names of your U.S. representative and senators on an Internet search engine, such as http://www.google.com, http://www.yahoo.com or http://www.bing.com. In the search field, type in "U.S. Senators from (your state)" or "U.S. representatives from (your state)." Many websites provide up-to-date information on all elected U.S. officials. Once you identify the specific representative or senator you're seeking, make a note of his office's physical address and email address.

    • 3). Compose a letter directed to your representative or senator regarding the issue that you would like to bring up with him or her. Print the letter or copy and paste it into the body of an email.

    • 4). Send the printed letter via the U.S. Postal Service or by e-mail. Many congressmen are good at responding to their mail. If you send an email, your email address may be added to their regular newsletter database and you may begin to receive regular communications from your congressmen.
