How to Polish With Metal Polisher
- 1). Remove the nut from the arbor shaft on your buffing machine with a wrench. Place a cotton fiber buffing wheel onto the arbor and then tighten the wheel in place by tightening the arbor nut.
- 2). Turn on the wheel and apply a coarse grade metal buffing compound to the edge of the wheel. In most cases, the compound is a solid stick. To apply the compound, press the stick firmly against the wheel for one to two seconds. Do not overload the wheel with compound or you will reduce the ability of the compound to polish the metal.
- 3). Touch the metal against the edge of the spinning wheel. Hold the metal firmly in your hands and rotate it in a circular motion while you slide it from left to right in a repetitive motion. Repeat this until the entire metal surface has a fine coating of polish and the metal looks shinier than it did when you started. If necessary, add additional compound to the wheel to keep the wheel lightly lubricated with polish.
- 4). Wipe the surface of the metal off with a microfiber rag to remove the remnants of the first polish.
- 5). Dress the buffing wheel with a wheel rake to remove the excess polish. Hold the wheel rake firmly with both hands and rub the rake across the edge of the spinning wheel for five to 10 seconds.
- 6). Turn off the buffing machine and wait for the wheel to stop spinning. Remove the buffing wheel and install a new cotton fiber wheel onto the buffing machine.
- 7). Turn on the wheel and apply a medium grade metal buffing compound to the edge of the wheel. Again, the compound is a solid stick. To apply the compound, press the stick firmly against the wheel for one to two seconds. Do not overload the wheel with compound.
- 8). Buff the wheel with the medium grade compound just as you did with the coarse grade compound. Stop when you have a thin coat of compound over the entire surface of the metal. You should notice that the surface of the metal is even shinier than before. However, the increased level of shine may be harder to see.
- 9). Wipe the surface of the metal off with a fresh microfiber rag to remove the remnants of the polish.

Dress the buffing wheel with the wheel rake. Remove the buffing wheel from the buffing wheel and install a third buffing wheel. Apply a fine grade of buffing compound to the edge of the wheel in the same manner as you applied the coarse and medium grade compounds. - 11
Buff the metal surface with the fine grade compound just as you completed the first two buffing sessions. Again, stop once you have a thin coat of compound on the metal surface. You may notice the difference in the level of shine but it will be minimal unless you have the metal outside in sunlight or under very bright lights. - 12
Wipe the compound off the metal surface with a fresh microfiber rag.
