Prom Balloon Ideas

    Archways and Columns

    • Mix black balloons with clear balloons imprinted with white stars on archway forms for a "Midnight Sky" prom theme. Wrap balloon clusters around hanging strands of white mini lights to form vertical balloon through which lights twinkle. Use solid colors or mix complementary colors to carry out your prom's theme.

    Clusters

    • Tie clusters of four, six or more white or clear balloons together and scatter along pathways, in corners and around the dance floor to form clouds. Set balloon clusters atop columns and architectural features or beneath tables. Nearby lights shining through the balloons add a magical glow. Suspend balloon clusters from the ceiling to add more clouds in carrying out daytime or evening themes. Clear or blue balloon clusters give the effect of ocean foam to beach prom themes. Add iridescent glitter shreds and set amid gathered bunches of white tulle or netting to add depth to any heavenly or paradise theme. Set clusters of green, white and silver balloons atop cardboard or plywood tree trunks to form balloon trees.

    Centerpieces

    • Anchor helium-filled balloons on strings to centerpieces with balloon weights and let them soar into spaces above the table to add bursts of color to prom decor. Weight shopping bags down with stacks of old magazines or bricks inside. Tie bunches of helium balloons to shopping bag handles or chair backs if they do not overwhelm table centerpieces.

    Filler

    • Fill giant champagne glasses, available at party supply houses, with clear or iridescent balloons to form bubbles. Outline gigantic masks with purple, emerald and gold balloons for a Mardi Gras theme. Scatter balloons in the same jewel tones around the floor and corners of the room. Mix Mylar star balloons with black and white balloons for Hollywood or red carpet themes. Use imprinted balloons with musical notes or other Hollywood designs to add greater depth. For an under-the-sea theme, suspend fishing line from the ceiling. Tie small white or translucent balloons along the line to form ocean bubbles. Add fish, porpoises and other small sea creatures between the balloon bubbles to give an underwater effect.

    Fund-raising Ideas

    • Organize a special "Prom Balloon Message" fundraising activity before the prom. Sell prom balloons for students to pick up at a special kiosk or station at the prom. A message from the sender will be attached to or inside each balloon for the recipient to open at the end of the event. For circus or carnival themes, have clowns sell helium-filled balloons that tie around the wrist. As couples dance, the balloons will fill the air above them and bob around the dance floor.
