Instructions for Making a Balloon Shade

    • 1). Install the mounting board according to the directions in the package.

    • 2). Measure the width and length of your window, adding 3 inches to the width and 6 inches to the length. Cut out both your curtain fabric and your lining fabric to the necessary measurements.

    • 3). Pin a strip of ring tape onto the lining fabric, 8 inches from the side and the same length. Sew down both sides of the ring tape to attach it to the lining. Repeat with the other side of the lining so you have two rows of ring tape.

    • 4). Layer your curtain and lining fabric with right sides together and pin at the sides. Sew down the sides only. Turn the curtain right side out and iron the seams flat.

    • 5). Hem the bottom of the curtain by folding the raw edges to the inside of the curtain ½ inch.

    • 6). Form a hem at the top of the curtain by folding under the fabric ½-inch and stitch in place. Fold the hemmed edge down 5 inches. Measure and mark 2 inches down from the top of the fold and sew across, leaving a little flap of fabric at the back of the curtain that you can attach to your mounting board.

    • 7). Cut two lengths of cording that measure twice the length of the curtain.

    • 8). Tie a knot around the first ring at the bottom of the ring tape using a cut length of cording. Thread the cording up through the rings in the tape, leaving the excess hanging loose.

    • 9). Repeat with the other row of ring tape and the other cut length of cording. Tie the two ends of cord together loosely.

Mount your curtain on the mounting board by stapling it through the casing at the back of the curtain. Staple as close to the seam as possible to make your balloon shade hang nicely.
