Making a Lamp Shade With Polymer Clay
- 1). Remove your kit's lamp shade from its base. Measure around the perimeter of the base so you can create a template with it. Use the measurements to form a lampshade from a milk carton or thin cardboard that is no taller than 5 inches. Cut your milk carton or thin cardboard using scissors or a craft knife and then tape it together with removable tape.

Fit your template into the lamp base to see if it fits properly. Make any adjustments if necessary. Condition your translucent and red polymer clay by kneading it. This warms it up and softens it for your project. - 3). Roll each color into logs approximately 10 inches long. Twist the two logs together and then roll it into a ball to swirl the colors together. Flatten with your hands into a 5-inch square. Set your pasta machine an 1/8-inch setting.
- 4). Run the clay through the pasta machine and then fold it in half. Run it through again. Open up your lamp shade template by removing the tape. Lay the clay onto the entire template to fit.
- 5). Fold up the clay and the template so it is the form of the lamp shade. Smooth the edges and seams of the clay on the template. Trim any excess clay with a knife.
- 6). Bake the polymer lamp shape at 265 degrees for 20 minutes on a baking sheet, standing up. Allow it to cool completely before handling. Remove the template and place the clay lampshade onto the wooden base.
