- Coffee grounds contain high levels of nitrogen, a vital nutrient for most plants to survive. Coffee grounds are also a natural source of phosphorus and potassium.
- Coffee grounds break down quickly when added to your compost pile. The nitrogen and acidity in the coffee grounds aid in breaking down organic matter contained in the compost pile. You can also tear your used coffee filters and place them in the compost pile.
- Placing your coffee grounds in the microwave for about 30 seconds will evaporate the moisture in the grounds before you spread them in your garden. While it is not necessary to dry the coffee grounds before placing them around your tomatoes, it will make it easier to apply an even layer.
