How to Make a Guy's Braided Necklace
- 1). Cut three pieces of cording to 26 inches. This will result in a necklace that is about 22 inches in length. For men with larger necks or for a longer length, cut longer pieces of cord.
- 2). Line up the ends of the cord and hold the three tips together. Wrap the cord around itself to create an overhand knot about 1 inch from the end. Pull the knot tightly.
- 3). Poke the safety pin through the knot in the cord and then pin the cords to the back of a chair, couch or solid piece of furniture. This anchors the necklace as you braid.
- 4). Take the three pieces and separate them so that you have a left, middle and right piece.
- 5). Bring the right piece over the center piece so that it becomes the new center and the original center piece is now on the right.
- 6). Bring the left piece over the center so that it becomes the center piece and the center is now on the left.
- 7). Continue crossing left over center, right over center and so on until you get about 2 inches from the end of the cord. Maintain a firm tension on the leather as you braid to achieve a tight braid.
- 8). Thread the bead or pendant over the free ends and allow it to slide to the middle of the necklace. Alternatively, leave the braided necklace simple and unadorned for a pared-down, rustic look.
- 9). Tie the free ends of the cording together into an overhand knot and pull tight. To put the necklace on, tie the two ends together around the man's neck.
