Sometimes Ya Just Gotta Talk to Yourself
God...
calleth those things that be not as though they were ~ Rom.
4:17 Do you ever talk to yourself? Even better, do you laugh at yourself? I know I do! It's the easiest way to change your attitude and cope with the overwhelm in your life.
Self-talk is my favorite coping strategy.
Several times a day, I remind myself that I am "rooted and grounded in love", that I can "do all things through Christ who strengthens me", and that there is "time for all things".
These are actually Biblical affirmations to keep my thinking in line with God's Word.
Misplaced objects hear "There is nothing lost in God's world.
" I know that God knows where everything is, so if I'm patient, He will remind me where to look.
Works every time! Patience insures that I don't get frustrated while I wait for the answer.
Sometimes my self-talk is really chatter at inanimate objects.
I talk to my computer ("Com'on now, you can do this"), traffic (often praying for impatient or erratic drivers), and my To-Do List.
Often, self-talk is a really a pep-talk to keep my thoughts focused in the right direction.
"I have the mind of Christ," is a favorite, reminding me that solutions come from Spirit.
I tell myself I am patient and kind, that Jesus gave me His peace, or that I can choose NOT to eat that Snickers bar! Laughter, of course, is the best coping skill.
By finding humor in life's situations, everything becomes easier to deal with.
I've learned to smile - even when I don't feel like it - because things just seem less stressful with a smile on my face.
I laugh out loud at internet jokes, watch funny movies and comedy shows.
Laughter releases endorphins into the blood stream.
It's a self-administered chemical 'high'! After a good laugh, it's hard to be depressed.
There is lots of talk and propaganda about the Law of Attraction - speaking into existence the things you want.
The idea is actually God's.
He told us to "call those things that be not as though they were.
" It's great to use the principle for major life changes; however, it also works for the small stuff.
Can't you just hear Abraham, muttering to himself, "I am a father, God promised!" Or Moses, "God said I can stand up to Pharoah, so here I go!" Take a lesson from me - talk to yourself (loud enough so you can hear it in your head).
Remind your brain that things are not as bad as they might seem, that you can cope, and that attitude is everything...
all the time.
You will soon see the manifestation of your words and the victory over your circumstances.
After all, God said He has 'given us the victory' and that we are 'more than conquerors'.
Ya just gotta believe it and speak it!
