How to Design a Cool Loft Bed
- 1). Use graphing paper to help make the design process easier. Determine a scale, such as 1 inch on the paper equals 1 foot in real life.
- 2). Set up the basic design for the loft bed. You need four posts that will bring the mattress up several feet off the floor. You also need side rails for around the mattress and a ladder. The ladder can be built into one side of the loft bed, or it can be built separate. Plan to attach the two shorter sides with one to three strips of lumber for added support. You can also add a support beam in the back.
- 3). Incorporate some fun molding onto the cool loft bed design. The tops of each post can include molding or you can connect the posts up top with a decoratively carved piece of wood. Decorative pieces can be created yourself with a jig saw or purchased from a home improvement store.
- 4). Add color. The color you choose for your loft bed can be the coolest part. Opt for something bold and daring, like a purple or lime green bed, if it fits your personality, or you can choose a basic color and paint the rungs, support pieces and decorative top a cool color like red, blue, orange, green or pink.
