Wording Ideas for a Wedding Wishing Well
- Monetary gifts can help a couple begin their married life together.wedding image by Aliaksandr Zabudzko from Fotolia.com
Many brides and grooms today already have most of the household items they need or want, making a traditional bridal registry redundant. Monetary gifts are often far more useful than another toaster, and the wedding wishing well helps the bride and groom collect contributions for their lives together. But tactfully broaching the subject of the wishing well can be another issue altogether. - Gift information is traditionally conveyed by word-of-mouth.Bride and Flower Girl image by TMLP from Fotolia.com
Traditionally, information about wedding gift preferences (including monetary ones) is spread by word of mouth with the help of the parents of the bride and groom, wedding party members and close friends. When asked, they can provide guests with registry details, as well as information about the wedding wishing well for guests who would like to make a gift of cash. It is also helpful to let friends and family know for what the money will be used. Emily Post suggests that if a bride or groom is directly asked what they would like as a gift, the couple could, for example, say "We're saving for a down payment on a house, so if you'd like to give a check, that's how we'll use it. But whatever you decide will be terrific. Thank you for thinking of us." The couple can also let the guest know that a wedding wishing well will be available at the reception. - A poem about the wishing well can be included in the invitation.invitation mariage image by Christophe Th??lisson from Fotolia.com
Although word of mouth is the traditional format for apprising guests of your wedding wishing well, there are numerous poems which let guests know of your preferences. Love-of-Poems notes that it is now acceptable to include a short poem in your invitation to let guests know that there will be a wedding wishing well at the reception and for what the gift will be used. This poem could also be displayed next to the wishing well at the reception site. - A note about the wedding wishing well can be enclosed in the invitation.alliance image by Christophe Th??lisson from Fotolia.com
Wedding Central Australia also suggests including a brief note with the invitation to explain the wishing well. The note could explain why the bride and groom will be having a wishing well (e.g., they already have most household items), for what the money will be used (e.g., the honeymoon, to help purchase a house or to help pay for the wedding), and reassurances that a traditional gift would also be welcome and appreciated.
