Pursue Your Passion - The Truth About Destiny and How it Relates to Passion

Do you believe in destiny? Is there such a thing as a one true passion in life that you are meant to pursue? Recently I was asked these questions and it really challenged me to define my beliefs about destiny.
Are we meant for greatness in life? Do we ultimately determine our path or are we a complete victim of circumstance? Are we a blank slate, as some psychologists still believe, or are we predisposed to perform better in some fields better than others? As I wrestled with all these questions and more, I came to a number of realizations that have greatly influenced my perspective of life.
So do I believe in destiny? Yes and no.
If your definition of destiny is that one has no control over their eventual outcome, that one is simply a rudderless ship taken wherever the currents may be flowing for their life, then no.
That said, there is a current, and we can't change the ship that we've got, but we can choose what we do about it.
The sad thing is that most people don't do anything about it, and end up being taken for a ride by the storms of circumstance.
If your definition of destiny is that we are all meant to achieve something great through our lives, that one can connect their passion with a commitment to realise the big dreams that one has, then...
YES! A thousand times yes! I believe that we all have the potential to live the 'right' dream.
So what is the 'right' dream? The 'right' dream is the dream that connects with who we are as a person, and every ounce of talent and passion that we have.
The 'right' dream is one that at the end of the journey, upon the realisation of the dream, we can say "Yes, I've done what I was meant to do with my life".
Is that a bit of a stretch of the imagination? Does this really work? If these are the questions going through your mind right now, then consider this: Was Edison 'destined' to invent the lightbulb? Was Einstein 'destined' to discover relativity? Was Steve Jobs 'destined' to make Apple what it is today? Maybe it was pure destiny, maybe it was all their own effort.
Or maybe they found their one true passion in life and took it to it's fullest expression.
What will be your destiny?
