How to Shine Wooden Floors

    • 1). Set up your rented floor buffer with its medium refinishing screen. Run the buffer over the floor, moving it forward and back in the direction of the boards, to degloss the surface, getting it completely dull.

    • 2). Vacuum the surface thoroughly to take up the dust.

    • 3). Reload the buffer with a fine-abrasion refinishing screen. Run it over the floor again, in the same manner as before, getting the surface smooth and flat. Vacuum the floor.

    • 4). Apply a coat of polyurethane floor gloss with a finishing brush, starting in the far corner from the doorway and brushing with the direction of the boards. Apply the polyurethane in a thin, even coat. Do the whole floor.

    • 5). Allow the gloss to set for eight hours. Use extra-fine sandpaper to buff off the shine by hand, using short, light strokes that are just enough to slightly dull it. Vacuum the floor.

    • 6). Apply the second and third layers of gloss in the same manner, letting the floor dry and sanding it lightly between layers. Let the final layer set --- without sanding --- for 24 hours.
