How to Glue PVC & Flex Pipe

    • 1). Use the pen to mark the points where the rigid and flexible PVC pipes will join to each other. Saw a straight perpendicular cut through the pipes at the marks. Roll a sheet of fine sandpaper into a tube. Sand the cut end of each pipe by holding the sandpaper at a 45-degree angle to the pipe end and moving the paper around the inner/outer sides of the cut.

    • 2). Wipe the exterior of the cut ends of both pipes with the rag (wipe off any water if working on an existing pipe). Push the flexible and rigid pipe ends into each end of the PVC fitting to make sure they fit together (this is called dry fitting). Pull the pipes back out of the fitting.

    • 3). Brush PVC cleaner onto the cut ends of both pipes and the interior of the fitting. Cans of PVC cleaner, primer and cement all have small brushes attached to the inside of their lids. The cleaner will remove residual oil and dirt. Wait a few seconds.

    • 4). Brush PVC primer onto the cut ends of the pipes and the interior of the fitting. The primer also helps to clean the PVC surfaces and helps the cement weld the joint. Let the primer dry for one minute.

    • 5). Brush clear PVC cement onto the primed pipe ends and interior of the fitting. Push the rigid pipe's end into one end of the fitting, turning it slightly. Push the flexible pipe end into the other end of the fitting, also turning it slightly. Hold both pipe ends to the fitting for 20 seconds while the cement begins to set -- the cement will make the pipes slippery, and they may slide out of position during the initial drying if not held in place.
