Ideas for a Teenage Sleepover

    Sleeping Arrangements

    • Instead of piling teenagers in a bedroom, consider other sleeping arrangements. Encourage them to sleep in a tree house or playhouse if you have one. Put up a tent in the back yard and let them sleep outside. Just be sure to provide flashlights. You can even forget the tent and let them sleep under the stars in their sleeping bags on the deck or lawn. Give them the family room all to themselves where they can curl up in sleeping bags on the floor. Let them have a room in the basement where they can tell ghost stories. Make the sleeping arrangements fun.

    Games

    • Although truth or dare is a popular sleepover game, try to play new games. Play freeze dance, where everyone dances until the music stops and then everyone freezes. Anyone who moves after the freeze, is out until the next round. Have a scavenger hunt for fun party favors. For another game idea, purchase a variety of makeup and write numbers on it. Have the girls roll the dice and make them apply whatever makeup matches the dice. See how funny you can look. Or you can sage a fashion show. See who can make the best outfit out of tinfoil. Teens can also play the mummy game where teams must wrap one of their members in toilet paper. The first one done wins.

    Other Activities

    • Karaoke is a popular activity. Set up a machine and let them sing their favorite songs while practicing the latest dance steps. Have a contest to see who sings or dances the best, but give everyone an award for participating. Involve the teens in craft projects like decorating cork bulletin boards, creating jewelry boxes or decorating photo frames. Let them scrapbook with photos from the different activities they do during the sleepover, just have a digital camera and a printer ready. Stage a talent show. Have a spa party where everyone gets facials and paints their nails. Fill bags with items that can be used as props in dramas and have teams act out skits.

    Food and Supplies

    • Plan your menu. Choose foods that are easy to eat and prepare for dinner, like pizza. Make sure to have plenty of finger foods and snacks on hand. Keep different drinks available like soda, Kool-Aid and juice. In the morning, make a nice breakfast. Keep a supply of everything your teenager's friends might need. Provide toothbrushes, combs and brushes, hair ties and anything else that your teenager might choose to do during the sleepover. Have party favors on hand, and purchase all the supplies you need for the games and activities during the sleepover.
