- 1). Check the crawl space for any cracks that might be allowing damp air in. Fill in cracks with cement or heavy-duty spackle. Ensure that the crawl space also has proper insulation.
- 2). Cover any open soil in the crawl space with polyethylene plastic to seal the soil and prevent moisture from entering the crawl space from the ground.
- 3). Put a dehumidifier with a dehumidistat included in the crawl space. A dehumidifier will remove any moisture that may seep into your crawl space; a dehumidistat will run the machine only when humidity and moisture are detected.
- 4). Check your crawl space every week. If you notice a continuing dampness or moldy odor, consult a professional as there may be a problem with the construction of your crawl space.
