Make a Decoupage Bracelet - What You'll Need

A scrap calendar or magazine with your favorite star can be reused to create a decoupage bracelet. Just use an old, plain cuff and a bit of Mod Podge to create a new, customized look. I'll show you how.

What You'll Need:
  • An old calendar, newspaper or magazine
  • Scissors
  • Paint brush
  • Mod Podge
  • A plain cuff or bracelet
  • A sheet of newspaper or plastic to cover your work area
Once you have gathered your materials, let's get started.

Cut Strips and Apply Glue

For my bracelet, I'm using a 2006 Hello Kitty calendar. After the year was over, I just couldn't bear to throw it out. Since then, I've used it for a great variety of scrapbooking and decoupage projects.

Cut strips of paper that are wide enough to show off your image, but still small enough to wrap around the bracelet. I used about an inch wide to get the days of the week and a few numbers on my paper strips.

You can also tear the paper instead of cutting to add texture to the look. If the paper is not tearing smoothly, turn the sheet 90 degrees to find the grain.

Coat each strip with a layer of Mod Podge. Flip the strip and coat the other side.

Next, I'll show you how to wrap the bracelet.

Wrap the Bracelet

Start at one end of the bracelet and begin wrapping at an angle. When you wrap at an angle, you can control how much of the paper shows.

Don't be afraid to add small folds or tear the paper to increase the angle or to add texture. The design is totally up to you, and there are always more pages to cut and glue.

Use as many strips as you need to cover the whole bracelet. Once this first layer is complete, you can add cut-outs or stickers to the bracelet.

After the bracelet is wrapped, brush on a coat of glue to smooth out the surface of the bracelet and protect your design. Let the glue dry. It should take a few hours for the glue to dry completely, or you can quicken the process with a hair dryer.

When the glue has dried, you are ready to apply scraps of paper to enhance the design. I used a cute sticker that came with my calendar. Apply glue to the back and front of your cut-out and press it onto the bracelet.

I folded over the edges of the sticker to make it fit. You may need to add another layer of glue to the front of your sticker. As it absorbs the glue, it will become easier to mold to the shape of the bracelet.

Paint the entire bracelet with another coat of glue to help form your cut-outs to the bracelet. Let dry completely. Next, we will finish the bracelet.

Brush on another coat of glue, completely covering the front, edges and inside of the bracelet. Sit the bracelet up on end, or hang it by a string to dry.

Using a hair dryer for this step may not let the glue dry to an even finish. Let the bracelet dry overnight. Once the glue is dry, your bracelet should be a single, smooth piece. If you want it to be extra durable, add one more coat of glue. Remember that this is a bracelet made of paper and glue, so it can not withstand a lot of scratches or moisture.

Once your bracelet is complete, upload a photo of your finished creation. We would love to see it!
