Going Natural - 5 Keys To Choosing the Right Stylist

More and more women are finding that going natural can be a liberating experience.
However, the choice to go natural can also be an extremely difficult one to make as it requires you to extend out of your comfort zone and be the object of criticism.
Going natural requires a support base and that starts with your stylist.
Choosing a stylist that provides exceptional service, offers natural beauty solutions and products, and can provide the best advice and tips can be all the difference in making the decision to go natural.
1.
Do your research
Don't just look in the Yellow Pages and pick any stylist.
Create a list of criteria and base your decision on your list.
Concentrate on what you look for most in a stylist.
Skills and talent won't be enough.
What about atmosphere, availability, distance and price? Being honest with yourself about your criteria can help you choose the right stylist for going natural.
2.
Look and ask around you
Word of mouth always has and always will be the best form of advertising.
If you see someone on the street with those locks in that great updo, or that two-strand twist that makes you say "wow!", ask them who their stylist is.
Not only will this give them a chance to brag on their stylist, but you might find a new acquaintance in the process.
3.
Never sell yourself short on the customer experience
Too many salons lose customers because they are still operating on an outdated business model.
We now live in an age where the customer is king and while your prices and talent may bring them in the door, it is the total customer experience that will keep them coming back.
To truly find a good stylist, you must put the work in and refuse to settle for less than the best.
Look for stylists and salons that pay attention to factors such as telephone manners, respect for you and your time, and a willingness to educate, enlighten and inform.
These are all key in providing the ultimate client care experience for going natural.
4.
Schedule a consultation and treat it like an interview
A consultation is the perfect time to see if a potential stylist will be the right fit for going natural.
This is not the time to be shy.
Talk about what you expect from them, discuss if they are equipped to handle and special requests or needs.
Being open and honest up front can go a long way in preventing any future styling disasters.
As your stylist is a professional, remember to be respectful to them and what services they provide.
Also, since their time is as valuable as yours, be prepared to compensate them for their time.
Even if the consultation is free, it is just good manners to at least buy their natural hair care products, or schedule a vanity service like brow arching, waxing, or a manicure.
5.
Choose a stylist that recommends natural products
As a natural hair care expert, I am committed to educating women on the importance of using natural hair care products to maintain their natural styles.
As a consumer, you should get into the habit of reading product labels and researching the mission of any brand(s) your stylist uses in their regimen.
Try to use only products that contain ingredients like olive, jojoba and sweet almond oil in the first five ingredients listed on their labels.
These ingredients excel in providing moisture and nutrients for the hair leaving it radiantly beautiful.
