Crochet Instructions for Curtains

    • 1). Chain 14 (for gauge swatch), then make a double crochet (dc) in fourth chain from your hook. This counts as the first dc. Crochet one dc in each of next nine chains. Measure the length of your 10-dc swatch--from the first dc to the last. Measure length of the window these curtains are planned for. Take the length of the window and divide it by the length of the 10-dc row. Multiply this number by 10. The result is the number of dc you need for your curtains, plus four more for the turning chain.

    • 2). Crochet the number of chains needed for the length of your window, as indicated earlier. Make one dc in the fourth chain from your hook, then one dc in each chain to the end of the row. Turn work from left to right for this and all following rows.

    • 3). Chain (ch) two for rows two through seven. Begin each row with a ch two and chain loosely so your curtains have drape. Make one dc in next three stitches (st), ch one, skip next st. Repeating from this point, dc in next st, skip next st, repeating until you get to the last four st. Crochet one dc each in last four st and turn work. For row eight, crochet one dc in each dc to the end of the row and turn work.

    • 4). Repeat seven "mesh" rows and one row of dc until your curtains are the correct width. Fasten yarn off and weave ends in neatly with a large-eye tapestry needle.

    • 5). Hang your curtains depending on what type of curtain rod you have at the window. If it's a round rod, slide the rod through the mesh at the top--below the four dc on each row. If you have a different kind of curtain rod, crochet additional length so you can turn the top over to create a "sleeve" for the rod. Sew the end in place.
