The Dillinger Escape Plan Profile

Early Days:

The Dillinger Escape Plan evolved from the hardcore band Arcane. The initial lineup included vocalist Dimitri Minakakis, guitarists Ben Wienman and Derrick Brantley, bassist Adam Doll and drummer Chris Pennie. Brantly didn't last long and was replaced by John Fulton. By the time the band released their debut EP in 1998, Fulton had also exited the group.

Calculating Infinity:

Before the recording of the band's debut full-length, bassist Adam Doll was injured in a car accident and unable to continue as a member.

Ben Weinman played both guitar and bass on Calculating Infinity, which received great response and reviews and was an extremely innovative and groundbreaking album. After the recording of the album guitarist Brian Benoit and bassist Jeff Wood joined the band.

More Lineup Changes:

After several successful tours, including Mr.Bungle and Warped, bassist Jeff Wood left The Dillinger Escape Plan, replaced by Liam Wilson. Then in 2000, vocalist Dimitri Minakakis departed the group. While searching for a permanent vocalist, people like Mike Patton (Faith No More) and Sean Ingram (Coalesce) filled in. The EP Irony Is A Dead Scene featured Patton on vocals.

New Vocalist:

In 2001 the band found their new vocalist, Greg Puciato. After touring with him and recording a few songs here and there for soundtracks and tribute albums, finally in 2004 their next full-length was released. Miss Machine sold well, and solidified The Dillinger Escape Plan as one of the most creative and polarizing groups in metal.

More Turmoil:

The next couple of years were filled with a lot of injuries and strife. Guitarist Brian Benoit had to leave the band because of a nerve injury. Weinman also suffered injuries in a car accident. The band released a digital EP Plagiarism in 2006, which was all cover songs. Then in 2007 as the band was on the verge of recording their next album, drummer Chris Pennie quit and joined Coheed and Cambria.

Ire Works:

Gil Sharone from Stolen Babies was tapped as Pennie's replacement. Ire Works was released in late 2007 to rave reviews. Former vocalist Dimitri Minakakis also appeared on one track. After the album was recorded guitarist Jeff Tuttle was added to The Dillinger Escape Plan's lineup.
