What Are Nail Foils?
- Nail foils are pieces of solid, decorative film designed to be applied to fingernails and toenails. They are applied by activating the adhesive backing with heat. Designed for both acrylic and natural nails, everyone can use them. Since they adhere with a non-toxic adhesive, they are safe for use. - To apply nail foils you may need a little time, but with some practice you can do it yourself at home. Salons use heat lamps which allow use of both hands while working and distribute heat more evenly, but at home you can use a hair dryer. Once the foil is warm, apply the adhesive side to the fingernail. Trim any extra foil. Most foils last a week.
- Removing nail foils is easy and does not require the use of strong chemicals or nail polish remover. Reheat the foils with warm water or by using a hair dryer. Once heated, lift on edge with your fingernail or nail tool and pull.
- If you are having trouble with foils lifting, there are several techniques that can help the foils stay in place longer. When applying, make sure you have trimmed the cuticles and buffed the nails. All shine should be removed from the nail to allow the foil to grip better. When applying the foil, hold it on the area that will later be trimmed away. When applying, avoid touching the cuticles or skin with the foil. Seal with a clear top coat.
