  The state of Arizona requires all drivers to possess a valid driver's license and maintain at least $15,000 in bodily injury insurance and $10,000 in property damage insurance. If you have no license or insurance and get in a car accident in Arizona then you will be issued misdemeanor citations that will result in financial penalties and possibly jail time. However, having no license or insurance will not have any bearing on assignation of fault for the accident.
  
  

Citation for No License

• Operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license is considered a Class 1 misdemeanor in the state of Arizona. If you get in an accident without a license you will be issued a misdemeanor citation and you may receive up to 6 months of jail time and a $2,500 fine. Your car may also be impounded.
  
  

Citation for No Insurance

• If you get in an accident in Arizona with no insurance, or with insufficient insurance, you will receive a Class 1 misdemeanor citation. You may face up to 6 months in jail, a $2,500 fine, and your car may be impounded. Additionally, your driver's license may be suspended until you provide the state with proof of insurance.
  
  

Additional Citation for Suspended License

• If you get into an accident while your driver's license is suspended or revoked then you will face mandatory penalties in addition to the Class 1 misdemeanor penalties for driving without a license. You will be required to serve at least 48 consecutive hours in jail and you will be issued a mandatory fine. The fine will be at least $50 for your first offense and at least $500 for a second offense.
  
  

Accident Liability

• Driving without a license or insurance does not affect assignment of responsibility for an accident. If another driver is determined to be at fault for the accident then they will be assigned responsibility for legal and insurance purposes. You will still be responsible for all penalties associated with failure to obtain a license or insurance.
